This page is still under construction and manuscripts are being added as needed.Eventually I
plan to write an article covering the various sound creations that can be made with modular
synths, all in the process preparing the development of a program that will run in Max/MSP.
Please wait to see the other pages.

If you do not have a modular synthesizer, don't worry. Modular synthesizers are the familiar synthesizer's internal circuits that are classified by function and made into independent modules that can be freely reconnected, making them easier to understand. To avoid too much text here I have used some jargon, but if you don't understand it, you can look it up on the Internet and you will quickly understand what it means.
This video shows how to create a kick sound using a modular synth. The four modules used here are an oscillator, envelope generator, VCA, and filter. Even if there is no filter, it is possible to create a kick-like sound. I use the Make Noise DPO sine wave as an oscillator. I have tried sawtooth wave and square wave, but they have too much overtones, so the focus on the low frequency range is relatively blurred, which spoils the kick-like sound. Triangular waves may also be a candidate.
The most important aspect of creating a kick sound is to use an envelope generator to rapidly raise the pitch only at the start of the kick. The curve and time of this envelope also greatly affects the kick's character. Make Noise MATHS is used here as an envelope generator. The kickiness of the sound is amplified by taking a little longer than the pitch envelope, and by making the sound extend to the fuselage part of the sound. Here, another envelope is prepared and connected to ModDemix, a VCA, to control the volume.
At this point, the kick sound is almost complete. The rest of the time, QPAS is used to create spectral balance details, but it is not necessarily necessary. If you need distortion, you might consider connecting distortion last. In this video, in the middle section, the CV Bus's external input, originally intended for line-level, is connected to the QPAS's -5v/+5v modular-level output to distort the sound.
